MOM BABY GOD Set for Limited Run at Gorilla Tango Bucktown, 10/24-26

By:

Now on national tour, Double LTR Productions' MOM BABY GOD makes its Midwest premiere on Thursday, October 24 at 9 pm and Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 3 pm at Gorilla Tango Bucktown, 1919 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647. Each performance is followed by an optional 30-minute talk-back. Tickets are $17 in advance, $25 at the door and can be purchased at www.gorillatango.com or by calling 773-598-4549.

MOM BABY GOD follows a rising teenage anti-abortion starlet as she navigates the political terrain at the fictional Students for Life of America Conference. Audience members become the conference attendees and witness first-hand the tactics and rhetoric of the anti-choice movement. Directed by New York-based artist Emma Weinstein, MOM BABY GOD features Boston-based performer and playwright Madeline Burrows, who embodies multiple fixtures of the conference, ranging from priests to abstinence-only sex educators, providing humorous, insightful, and often shocking perspectives on the anti-abortion movement.

Based on a year of immersing research and interviews at anti-abortion conferences, fundraisers, and rallies and inspired by recent legislation like Texas House Bill 2, one of the nation's most restrictive abortion laws, and the Illinois Supreme Court's ruling ordering the enforcement of parental notification laws, MOM BABY GOD inspires renewed commitment and conversation about reproductive rights advocacy. Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade by delving into a line of inquiry that puts indoctrination, groupthink, and America's twisting moral code at the center of the debate. Explore how young women today develop a sense of self and sexuality amidst the ongoing political backlash against feminism and reproductive rights.
