Lil Buck with Mihai Marica

What Moves You

December 6, 2016, 6PM

Charles "Lil Buck" Riley brought international attention to the street dance Memphis jookin' in 2011 when a video of his improvised performance with cellist Yo-Yo Ma went viral on YouTube, resulting in Ma declaring him a "genius." Since then Lil Buck, who is trained in both ballet and hip-hop, has performed with Madonna, New York City Ballet, and Cirque du Soleil. What Moves You is an intimate duo collaboration between Lil Buck and one of today's youngest and most accomplished classical cellists, Mihai Marica. Lil Buck and Mihai will present an interactive performance that reveals the intricacy and immediacy of the creative process between movement and music, and challenge the boundaries of what the two instruments - the body and the cello - can do. The duo will demonstrate what it means when Lil Buck says, "I see sounds everywhere." See Lil Buck and Yo-Yo Ma perform HERE.

This performance is made possible with support from Deborah and Michael Korompilas, Evening Sponsor

This presentation is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from Illinois Arts Council Agency and the Crane Group.
