MCL Chicago to Premiere ZIG: EDM SUICIDE, 5/15-6/27

By:

MCL Chicago, the first theater in Chicago dedicated to innovative musical comedies, presents the company's third original production "ZIG: EDM Suicide," a serio-comedy rock musical about redemption and connection in a digital age. Written by up-and-coming playwright Michael Shepherd Jordan and directed by MCL Chicago's Executive Chair Alex Richmond at MCL Chicago (formerly Studio BE), 3110 N. Sheffield Ave.

Set in the techno-heavy modern day, "ZIG: EDM Suicide" introduces audiences to EDM (Electronic Dance Music) superstar ZIG who craves to make any type of real connection with the youth of this generation, not with their cell phones. While ZIG searches for the song that will connect his millennial fans to rock 'n' roll music, his label only wants him to be trending no matter the cost. Drawing inspiration from rock legends of the 1970s, particularly David Bowie and his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust, ZIG ventures on a drug fueled fantasia receiving help from cosmic characters such as Space Jesus Neil Degrasse Tyson, Sarah from "Labyrinth" and Major Tom. Join ZIG on his odyssey into 1970s arena rock and roll.

"This show is as if a rock concert and theatrical play had an epic love child," said MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday. "I am incredibly excited to introduce Chicago audiences to this type of hybrid concert musical. The score from this show pays homage to the legends of 1970s rock music like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie and Joan Jett while creating new sounds that baby boomers and Generation Y will all want to add to their vinyl collection."

"ZIG: EDM Suicide" will perform at the newly renovated MCL Chicago (formerly Studio BE), 3110 N. Sheffield. Preview is Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. The regular run will play Fri., May 22 through Sat., June 27, 2015.

The performance schedule is Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. There will be no performance on Fri. June 5 and Sat. June 6. All shows are BYOB. The show's estimated running time is 60 minutes.

Tickets for the production are $10-$20. Student tickets are $10. Tickets are available via cash or credit at the door or online at MCLChicago.com.
