MCL Chicago Sets Six Original Musicals for First Annual Premier Premieres! Festival

MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday is proud to announce the six original musicals selected for the inaugural Premier Premieres! A Weekend of New Musical Comedies festival. The festival received submissions from across the country with four finalists from Chicago and two finalists from New York City. Premier Premieres! will be held June 4-6, 2015, at MCL Chicago (3110 N. Sheffield). All shows are BYOB. Tickets for individual performances will be $15, nightly passes will be $25 (Friday) and $35 (Saturday), and festival passes will be $65. All tickets can be purchased via cash or credit at the door or online at MCLChicago.com. Each musical's estimated running time is between 60-90 minutes.

FESTIVAL DESCRIPTION

The inaugural Premier Premieres! A Weekend of New Musical Comedies festival is designed to celebrate new original musicals for Chicago's vibrant comedy scene. Six shows that have never been produced before will premiere over a weekend at MCL Chicago. One will be selected the "Premier Premiere" by a panel of three adjudicators from the Chicago theater community and win a six performance run at MCL Chicago.

Thursday, June 4
8 p.m. - MOTEL RASDELL (New York) - Danielle DeMatteo (Book, Music, and Lyrics), Christina Bracco (Book)

Set in the late 1940s, Motel Rasdell tells the (slightly) true story of a sleazy motel just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and its inhabitants.

Friday, June 5
7 p.m. - HEADSHOT: A GEEK TRAGEDY (New York) - Scout Storey (Book and Lyrics), Nick Morgan (Music)

The gaming world gets a little too real as a multi-day gaming marathon divulges into a full-on zombie apocalypse.

9 p.m. - TAPPED (Chicago) - Jed Levine (Book and Lyrics), Brad Kemp (Music)

An independent NSA agent reluctantly falls in love with the whistleblower she's assigned to spy on.

Saturday, June 6
6:30 p.m. - QUEST FOR THE PERFECT WOMAN (Chicago) - Ashley Stevenson (Book and Lyric), Sandy Van Laningham (Music)

Four contestants on the gameshow "Quest for the Perfect Woman" vie to win the title "Perfect Woman" until one of the contestants breaks away and tries to put a stop to the quest once and for all.

8:30 p.m. - THE THANKSGIVING CIRCUMCISION (Chicago) - Ethan Krupp (Book and Lyrics), Davyd Reddyk (Book, Lyrics and Music)

According to the Torah, Jewish male babies are to be circumcised eight days after birth. In the case of Elena and James' second child, that means the bris is on Thanksgiving.

10:30 p.m. - SELF-STARTERS (Chicago) - Andi Sharavsky, Danny Galvin, Gretchen Eng and Jonathan Love (Book and Lyrics), David Yontz (Music)
