Lincoln Trio to Perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto at Pick-Staiger Hall, 4/3

By: Mar. 09, 2016

The Chicago Philharmonic continues its series exploring turning points in the lives of composers with Triumph and Transendence, taking place April 3, 7:00 P.M. at Pick-Staiger Hall. The program will include performances of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, Ludwig van Beethoven's Triple Concerto for solo violin, cello, and piano, and John David Earnest Chasing the Sun.

The Lincoln Trio - composed of Desire?e Ruhstrat (violin) David Cunliffe (cello), and Marta Aznavoorian (piano) - joins in the orchestra's performance of the Triple Concerto. The group was nominated for a Grammy in 2014 and has been called "one of the hottest young trios in the business" (Fanfare Magazine). Their discography has been praised by critics such as the New Yorker's Alex Ross, and they have performed around the world to audiences that have included President Barack Obama.

In honor of its performance of Beethoven's Triple Concerto, the Philharmonic welcomes physicist Ken Kemner, recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, to present the results of his x-ray fluorescence analysis of Beethoven's hair and bone, which shed new light on possible contributors to the composer's life-changing illnesses.

This program is partially supported by 2015-16 season sponsor Von Maur, William Blair, solo ensemble sponsor VennWell, and orchestra sponsor The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
