LIES & LIABILITY: A SUMMER'S BALL to Bring Regency Era to Lord's Park Pavilion in Elgin,

Grimmoire Productions is inviting guests to trade an ordinary Saturday afternoon for the social event of the Season with Lies & Liability: A Summer's Ball, an immersive Regency-inspired dance experience taking place Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 2-6 p.m. at the historic Lord's Park Pavilion in Elgin, Illinois.

Part historical dance event, part immersive theatre, and part Regency social gathering, A Summer's Ball gives guests the opportunity to step inside the sort of world usually reserved for the page and screen.

Attendees will spend the afternoon learning and enjoying social dances from the Regency period under the instruction of professional dance instructor and dance historian Susan de Guardiola. Designed with beginners in mind, the dances are social by nature, allowing guests to meet and dance with different partners throughout the afternoon.

No previous dance experience-and no dance partner-is required. The event is a dance-oriented spin-off of Grimmoire Productions' Lies & Liability live-action roleplaying experience, but guests do not need any previous LARP, acting, or immersive theatre experience to attend.

Instead, A Summer's Ball offers what the company describes as a 'LARP-lite' experience. Guests need only select an appropriately Regency name for themselves before entering the festivities. Costumed performers will mingle among attendees throughout the afternoon, offering conversation, rumors, and gossip from the fictional Ton. Guests may engage with the interactive storyline as much-or as little-as they please.

The result is an experience somewhere between a historical ball and participatory theatre: an opportunity to dress beautifully, dance, meet new people, and briefly become part of a Regency social world.

Expect an afternoon wilder than Pride and Prejudice, but more historically grounded than Bridgerton. Between dances, guests can explore the grounds of the historic Lord's Park Pavilion, including its deck, nearby creek, and fountain. Light refreshments including lemonade and cookies will be available, along with professional photography and opportunities to browse Regency-themed goods from local craftspeople.

Period costuming is encouraged, but strict historical accuracy is not required. Guests are invited to embrace the occasion with long dresses, formalwear, sharp attire, or other Regency-inspired looks.

Whether attendees arrive as devoted Jane Austen readers, historical costumers, dancers, theatre lovers, LARPers, Bridgerton fans, or simply people who have always wanted an excuse to attend a proper ball, A Summer's Ball is designed to make the Regency fantasy accessible to newcomers.
