Joan Curto Brings Sondheim 85th Birthday Tribute to Chicago, Now thru 3/28

Called "a cabaret icon" by NBC Chicago, After Dark Award-winning vocalist Joan Curto performs her new tribute show Joan Curto Sings Sondheim- everybody says don't, that will be marking the 85th birthday of celebrated composer Stephen Sondheim (March 23, 1925). The show will celebrate the musical and lyrical genius of Sondheim and his contributions to American musical theater. Praised by the Chicago Tribune's noted jazz critic Howard Reich as "a seasoned interpreter who makes the most of every note." Joan will offer audiences a glimpse into the extensive catalogue of Sondheim. The show will feature music from many of his shows including: Company, Follies, Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Merrily We Roll Along and more.

One of Chicago's top cabaret performers, Curto will be joined by other well-known Chicago musicians, Beckie Menzie on piano, and Jim Cox on bass. This special event takes place at Davenport's, 1383 North Milwaukee, Avenue, Chicago, every Saturday in March (7, 14, 21 & 28th) at 8pm. There is a $22 cover charge and two drink minimum. Known for her thoughtful interpretations and powerful vocals, Joan will feature classic Sondheim songs; Something's Coming, Send In the Clowns, Everybody Says Don't and I'm Still Here, as well as other favorites from one the American musical theater's most prolific songwriters. Sondheim, described by Frank Rich of The New York Times, as "now the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theater" is the winner eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award. Always relevant, his show Into The Woods is currently a box office hit Hollywood musical, grossing over $100 million and the soundtrack a Top 10 Billboard best-selling album.

Winning the After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist, Joan Curto is recognized as one of Chicago's most prominent cabaret artists and one of the nation's premier interpreters of the great American songbook. She has performed at many of the country's most prestigious music venues including: New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Room, The Gardenia in Los Angeles, The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center in Milwaukee, and The Colony Room in Palm Beach.
