Infamous Commonwealth Theatre Presents SACRIFICE, 6/11-7/10

Infamous Commonwealth Theatre (ICT) opens the second production of their 2011 season dedicated to the topic Sacrifice with Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July directed by Edward Morgan.

Summer,1977. Ken is a legless Vietnam vet hiding from life at the large country farm he shares with his lover. The couple is hosting a variety of loved ones for the holiday weekend, including Ken's spacey aunt, tart-tongued sister, sassy teenage niece, and oldest childhood friend. As the play progresses, Ken and his guests trade hilarious anecdotes and bitter recriminations about the past, all while struggling to make peace with the irrevocable choices each have made.

Lanford Wilson is one of the most successful American Playwrights of the latter half of the twentieth century. Honors include winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1980 and being elected to the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2001. Some of his most famous plays include Balm in Gilead, Hot L Baltimore, Burn This and "The Talley Trilogy" (Fifth of July, Talley's Folly and Talley & Son).

Edward Morgan is a freelance director, writer and teacher. His recent employers include Virginia Stage Company, Merrimack Rep in Boston, Clarence Brown in Knoxville and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, where his Faulkner adaptation, Twenty Seven, was part of this year's Southern Playwrights New Play Festival. As Associate Artistic Director at Milwaukee Rep for 8 years, Mr. Morgan directed a score of productions, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Weir, A Delicate Balance and several original works. In D.C., he and his work have been honored with Helen Hayes awards and nominations, and in NY, he was a recipient of the Drama League of New York Director's Project Fellowship. Mr. Morgan has been a guest artist at numerous universities. He's also a Casting Partner for Cirque du Soleil. Upcoming projects include The Exonerated at Next Act in Milwaukee, a performing tour in India through the State Department and a Fulbright fellowship in Costa Rica.

Fifth of July features the acting talents of ICT company members Josh Atkins, Stephen Dunn, Whitney Hayes, as well as Billy Fenderson, Gynnis Gilio, Roy Gonzalez, Erin Myers, and Joanna Riopelle.
