After playing to sold out houses at The New York International Fringe Festival 2010 and winning Outstanding Playwright for James Asmus' haunting and hilarious script, The New Colony's Hearts Full Of Blood (previously called Calls To Blood) will now play the FringeNYC Encore Series September 9-14.

Hearts Full of Blood  received some of the highest critical and audience praise at this year's FringeNYC.  Time Out New York called it "genuinely breathtaking," and TheaterMania stated, "There's an undeniable electricity that flows through playwright James Asmus' dialogue."  But for a company aiming at attracting new theater audiences,  the declaration from the  blog Theater Is Easy may hold the most resonance with the company's mission, "you would be doing yourself a favor to spend your hard earned dough on something that you will truly love and enjoy, like this production."

"This is a huge opportunity for us," says New Colony Producing Director Will Rogers.  "The reception we received during our first trip to New York was beyond our expectations, and having the original company back together made it even more sweet.  The feedback has been tremendous and the Encore Series will give us the opportunity to introduce The New Colony to a broader audience and even more potential producing partners."

Hearts Full Of Blood is the darkly comic tragedy of a perfect couple and their seemingly impenetrable happiness - even as they struggle and fail to conceive the child they want so desperately. In trying to find a solution, they unearth the one truth that can destroy everything upon which their relationship has been built.

"One of The New Colony's founding principles is to always take risks," Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood commented. "In our first season, our major risk was scale of production. We opted for large casts, non-traditional spaces, and challenging production elements. This play is a very different theatrical risk, an intimate four-person drama with a haunting new script.  When James approached me about adapting this very disturbing true story to stage, it felt like the exact play we wanted to take The New Colony to the next level."

Hearts Full Of Blood originally opened under the title Calls to Blood on October 12th, 2009 at Chicago's Royal George Theater for a six week run. During that time it moved to a larger space within the theater and extended.  Hearts Full Of Blood was one of The New Colony's greatest artistic and box office successes.

Hearts Full Of Blood  is directed by Andrew Hobgood, written by James Asmus, original score by Stephanie Sherline, and features Sarah Gitenstein Mary Hollis Inboden, Evan Linder and Gary Tiedemann.
