After four years as a resident company in Strawdog Theatre's Hugen Hall, The Forks & Hope Ensemble is producing their first fully devised work at Jackalope's Frontier this August. A Hero's Journey uses Joseph Campbell's "hero's journey" theory to explore humanity's impulse to tell and re-tell stories of mythological heroes. Using the ensemble's trademark playful, movement-based aesthetic, each performer goes on their own heroic journey, which reveals parallels to their own lives. Audience members can expect to meet epic characters like Odysseus, King Sejong, and Psyche on a human scale in an intimate, imaginative setting.

A Hero's Journey is directed by ensemble member Aileen McGroddy, who has movement directed and co-created all of the group's previous shows: The Hunting of the Snark, The Just So Stories, The Pied Piper, and Robin Hood & Maid Marion. The show was written by ensemble member Christian Stokes in collaboration with the performers (Andrew Bailes, Josh Mattingly, Errol McLendon, Austin Oie, Casey Pilkenton, and Kelsey Shipley.) AHero's Journey will also feature original music by Austin Oie and John Szymanski.

Founded in 2013, Forks & Hope celebrates the honesty in simple stories using the musicality of movement. We invite our ageless audiences into worlds of imagination and wonder. Ensemble energy fuels our creations.

Tickets are $15, available via forksandhopeensemble.com
