Driehaus Museum Announces an Evening of Tango, 2/7

By:

On Thursday, February 7, a Valentine's Day-inspired evening at the Driehaus Museum immerses guests in the sensuous dance and musical styles of Latin America.

Dois no Choro, the duo featuring flutist Julie Koidin and singer-guitarist Paulinho Garcia, will perform songs from its South American repertoire, including tangos, waltzes, and zambas. From the sounds of Gardel to Piazzolla, listeners will fall in love with the beautiful, warm sounds of this rich musical tradition.

"Concerts at the Driehaus Museum, whether jazz, cabaret, or classical, have always been among our most popular public programs, and we have been fortunate in our partnerships with many of Chicago's finest musicians," says Driehaus Museum Director Lise Dube-Scherr. "This February, the exceptionally talented Julie Koidin and Paulinho Garcia of Dois no Choro add depth and international flavor to our program lineup. From Latin America with Love immerses guests in the sensuous culture, dance and musical styles, and cuisine-thanks to a benefit for ticket holders to our neighbors, the restaurant Nacional 27-of South America, just in time for Valentine's Day."

The evening commences at 7:30 p.m. with a tango talk and demonstration by Koidin, who is also an avid tango enthusiast and talented dancer. After she assists guests in learning the first steps of the tango "salida," South American-inspired sweets and bubbly will be served in the Driehaus Museum Ballroom. Finally, Koidin and Garcia, who have been performing together as Dois no Choro-which means "Two in Choro" in Portuguese-since 1997, will conclude the romantic evening with an 8:30 p.m. concert.

Prior to attending From Latin America with Love, Guests are also invited to make the evening a true Latin love fest by enjoying dinner with our neighbors, Nacional 27. To receive a special 20% discount at the restaurant, ticket purchasers simply present their Driehaus Museum receipt or confirmation email. Reservations are recommended.

Tickets are $45 for Driehaus Museum members and $55 for the general public. Ticket price includes bubbly and light fare. Guests must be 21 years or older to attend. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for any guests who would like to explore the Driehaus Museum and its collections prior to the start of the tango talk and concert.
