On Tuesday, February 9th Chicago Opera Theater's (COT) young professionals club Opera Underground will host "Opera with a Twist" at Faith & Whiskey in Lincoln Park. 100% of the proceeds from the tickets will go towards supporting COT's Education and Outreach Program. The event includes an opera bar, light appetizers, and a short performance by COT Young Artists, Catalina Cuervo and Jorge Prego. Opera Underground parties are a perfect opportunity for Chicago area young professionals to meet up after work to drink, eat, and experience a little opera.

"I am thrilled that our Opera Underground club continues to reach out to the young professionals in Chicago with these social events that give just a taste of what we do," said General Director Brian Dickie. "And we would like to thank Faith & Whiskey for hosting this evening that benefits our education efforts."

The event will begin at 6:30pm at Faith & Whiskey in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Guests can enjoy a three hour open bar featuring COT's Signature Drink, the "Operatini", as well as hors d'oeuvres. There will be the opportunity to win great prizes that include a pair of Opera Underground memberships to Chicago Opera Theater's 2010 Spring Festival Season. The event is a great way for young professionals in Chicago to give back to the community while enjoying great music and drinks with their friends.

A highlight of the evening will be a performance by two members of Chicago Opera Theater's Young Artists Program. Soprano Catalina Cuervo and tenor Jorge Prego will present a short program from Puccini's La Rondine. In conjunction with their work at COT they are both earning their Professional Diploma in Opera from Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Catalina will also perform as part of COT's Young Artist Recitals this spring at the Chicago Cultural Center and Jorge will sing the role of Aronne in Moses in Egypt, the opening opera of COT's 2010 Spring Festival Season at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park.

Founded in 1974 by Alan Stone, Chicago Opera Theater has carved a significant place for itself in the operatic life of Chicago and has reached an audience of hundreds of thousands through its main stage performances, outreach, education and young artist programs.
Since Brian Dickie's appointment as General Director in 1999, COT has evolved as an opera company that is young, fresh, and colorful-an image well suited to its surroundings at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.

Chicago Opera Theater's 2010 Spring Festival Season runs April 17 through May 16 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. The season opens with Rossini's Moses in Egypt (April 17-25), followed by Cavalli's Jason (April 24-May 2), and closes with Jake Heggie's Three Decembers with Frederica von Stade (May 8-16).
