Full cast and creative team for Theo Ubique's holiday season production of ALTAR BOYZ was announced today by director Courtney Crouse, who previously directed A Marvin Hamlisch SONGBOOK and HONKY TONK ANGELS for the company. Playing the members of the fictitious Christian boy band of the title will be Max DeTogne, Frankie Leo Bennett, Colin Schreier, Brian Bandura and Steven Romero Schaeffer. Joining Crouse on the creative team will be Theo Ubique's Resident Music Director Jeremy Ramey and choreographer Sawyer Smith. Ramey and Smith are both recent Jeff Award winners: Ramey was named Best Music Director this year for Theo's THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and Smith won the 2016 award for his choreography of HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL by Kokandy Productions.
Schaeffer DeTogne, a two-time Jeff nominee for his leading performances in Theo Ubique's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and Refuge Theatre Project's HIGH FIDELITY THE MUSICAL will play Altar Boy Matthew. DeTogne is currently appearing as Clyde Barrow in Kokandy's BONNIE AND CLYDE. Frankie Leo Bennett, Sonny in Porchlight's IN THE HEIGHTS, will be Mark. Colin Schreier, who's earning rave reviews in Theo Ubique's currently running production of A NEW BRAIN, will play Luke. Juan will be played by Brian Bandura, a 2016 graduate of Indiana University with credits at Colorado's Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. Appearing as the lone Jewish member of the Altar Boyz, Abraham, will be Steven Romero Schaeffer, who is currently performing in BIG RIVER at Theater at the Center and has appeared in HAIR at Metropolis Arts Center. ALTAR BOYZ is a mock concert by a fictitious Christian boy band including singers namEd Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Abraham. One of off-Broadway's longest-running musicals with a run of nearly five years, ALTAR BOYZ gently parodies both boy bands and Christian pop music through a score of comic and tuneful songs.
