Spring comes to Millennium Park with Chicago-based actress and singer McKinley Carter in the finalCabaret with a View concert of the season on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. on the enclosed stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Titled Spring Forward/Fall Back, the evening will feature music inspired by the renewal and possibility of springtime.
Presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, Cabaret with a View offers audiences a chance to sit on the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion to experience music in an intimate setting and a climate controlled environment. Tickets are $25 which includes seating on the Pritzker Pavilion’s stage level and two complimentary drinks, and $15 for seats in the Pritzker’s choral balcony. Dustin Pappin will join McKinley Carter on piano and the pair will showcase a variety of composers and musical styles from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cy Coleman and William Finn to Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen and Carole King. The evening will also include music by local composers Cheri Coons, Beckie Menzie and Chuck Larkin.McKinley Carter has made her home in Chicago as an actor and singer for 17 years. She was most recently seen in The Sound of Music at Drury Lane Oakbrook; and Putting It Together at Porchlight Music Theatre. McKinley has performed on many of Chicago’s major stages: Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, as well as the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre. Her cabaret career began with her girl group, The Blondes, and branched out to her own solo cabarets, Beg, Borrow, and Steal (After Dark Award for Best Cabaret), Ballad Heavy and Traveling Solo.
When not playing for McKinley Carter and a few other talented local singers, Dustin Pappin runs his own application development business. In years past, he has served as Musical Director, vocal coach or accompanist on various musical theater projects.On Monday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m., Cabaret with a View will feature singer/songwriter Paul Oakley Stovall and Brad Simmons in The Next Best Thing to Love at the Jay Pritkzer Pavilion.
