The Tony Award nominated John Herrera returns to the Village Players Performing Arts, on June 14, 2009 at 7:30pm, with "Songs for Fathers, Sons and Daughters," an intimate concert.

John brings his unique talent back to the Village Players Theatre with a mix of Broadway and pop music, with an emphasis on the lyrics a la Charles Aznavour (only in English) or Harry Chapin. Songs include "The Cat's in the Cradle", "Fathers and Sons" and a song about his daughter "Beautiful Girl". There's a song in Spanish from "The Mambo Kings" and "Cuban Pete" made famous by Desi Arnaz on the "I Love Lucy" show. Piano accompaniment is by Kimberly Widmer.

John is thrilled to be returning to Chicago, "where it all began for me. It's like coming home again. I recharge my batteries when I do concert work. I pick the material I sing and it's very personal. It just John up there, not some character I'm portraying. Also coming to Chicago means an opportunity to spend time with my Mom, daughter Erin-Marie and my four year old grandson Eli. As well as old friends and theater colleagues."

John Herrera created the role of Bruce, the Medium, in The Medium At Large last fall at Oak Park Village Players. A former Chicagoan, he is best remembered here for his performances as Che in Evita (Shubert Theater) and George in Sunday in the Park with George (Goodman Theatre/Jefferson Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical).

On Broadway, John created the role of Neville in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, for which he was nominated for both the Tony and an Outer Critic's Circle awards for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Other Broadway credits include Che in Evita, opposite Patti LuPone, the revival of 1776, playing Roger Sherman, Camelot with Richard Burton, standing by for Brian Stokes Mitchell's Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, The Threepenny Opera for the Roundabout Theater, Shogun, and Grease, his Broadway debut.

Other Chicago credits: Harry Chapin: Lies & Legends (Apollo Theater) singing Harry's most famous song Taxi. Romance, Romance (Apple Tree Theater/Jefferson Award nomination), Tito in Lend Me a Tenor (Royal George Theater), Marvin in March of the Falsettos (Theater Building) and later in Falsettoland (Wisdom Bridge Theater).

John was featured as the Governor in the New York Philharmonic staged concert version of Leonard Bernstein's Candide on PBS, that is available on DVD. Film and television credits: "The Mambo Kings", "Romance, Romance" on A&E, and "Law and Order SVU". Born in Havana, Cuba, John is now working on a new one man show called "Tropic Illusion" which recreates a performance at a nightclub in Havana in the 1950's. John appeared as Kevin in the off Broadway hit musical In the Heights.

Presented on the Mainstage Theatre of the Village Players Performing Arts Center located at 1010 Madison St., Oak Park. Plenty of parking is available on the street.
