BoHo Theatre to Present DOGFIGHT, 9/5-10/18

By:

BoHo Theatre closes out its groundbreaking 11th season with the musical Dogfight by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Peter Duchan, directed by BoHo Artistic Director Peter Marston Sullivan. Based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film, Dogfight explores the power of compassion in the face of cruelty and malice. The play features a rousing score and an emotional heart that shows musical theatre at its finest.

November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to Vietnam, three young Marines take part in a "dogfight"- a game where the soldiers compete to bring the ugliest date, unbeknownst to the girls accompanying them. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion. With some of the best new music on the current musical stage, Dogfight begins as a rousing song and dance adventure and ends as an intimate story about finding the beauty and comfort of love in the most unexpected places.

Dogfight received a Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater in 2011, and won the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical in 2013. Based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film, Dogfight takes audiences on a romantic and heartbreaking theatrical journey that stays with you long after the performance.

THE PRODUCTION
BoHo Theatre has assembled some of its best talent to bring the off-Broadway hit Dogfight to Chicago this fall at Theater Wit. In adapting the show from the Hollywood movie of the same name, book writer Peter Duchan sought to explore the film's characters in more depth. With BoHo's mission-driven focus on the connections and relationships between people, the company is uniquely suited to bring this daring musical to life. "The show takes an unflinching look at how people - as individuals or groups - can be horribly cruel and arrogant. Yet one single hopeful heart can bring about change, love and beauty," says director Peter Marston Sullivan. "The message of reaping what you sow and standing up for what you believe in will hit you hard, but that's exactly why the play has stuck with me, and why it will resonate with our audience."
