Barrel of Monkeys Announces 'Big Prom: The Magic Ball,' 4/27
Barrel of Monkeys, the Chicago-based arts education theater ensemble,
holds its annual Fancy Schmancy Fundraiser on Saturday, April 27 from 7 to 11 p.m.
at The Drucker Center, 1535 N. Dayton St. This years theme "Big Prom: The Magic
Ball" is based on a student's story written by three students from Morton School of
Excellence in a Barrel of Monkeys writing residency.
"This is the perfect opportunity to relive the best...or worst...night of high school," said
Artistic Director Molly Brennan. "Guests will enjoy a magical evening which supports Barrel of Monkeys' work with Chicago Public School students."
"Big Prom: The Magic Ball" features a performance by world-renowned magician
David Kovac. In addition, there will be live music by The Breakfast Club, fortune tellers, a
balloon arch, and the crowning of a prom king and queen, all in a real gymnasium (no
stilettos allowed). For refreshments, there will be appetizers, beer, wine and spiked
punch.
The event's raffle features the chance to win two tickets to a taping of "Saturday Night
Live!" in New York City. Silent auction items include magical getaways, tickets to
sporting events, culinary experiences and more.
Barrel of Monkeys conducts creative writing residencies with 3rd through 5th graders
in Chicago Public Schools. These residencies offer a unique hybrid of creative writing
and drama activities. Student-written stories are adapted into professionally-performed
theater presented both in-school and through performances for the general public at
"That's Weird, Grandma". Barrel of Monkeys performs more than 300 student-written
stories for the students in their schools and more than 175 stories on the stage for the
public each year.
Barrel of Monkeys' Fancy Schmancy Fundraiser "Big Prom: The Magic Ball" is
Saturday, April 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Drucker Center, 1535 N. Dayton St. Tickets
to "Big Prom: The Magic Ball" are $50 or $75 for a Fancy Ticket which allows for VIP
experiences throughout the evening. This event is for patrons 21 and older. For tickets
