Artemisia Kicks Off 2014 Fall Festival of Staged Readings This Weekend

Artemisia, A Chicago Theatre announces its 2014 Fall Festival of Staged Readings. Performances will be held September 19 & 20and September 26 & 27 at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, 925 W. Diversey in Chicago. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Each night a new play is performed and is free to the public. Donations are encouraged and walk-ins are welcome. Reservations are available beginning August 1 at artemisiatheatre.org.

Six plays were chosen from seven hundred submissions and are written and directed by women. Outriders, by Kate Douglas, Girl Against the Wall by Lisa Lee, Two Degrees, by Tira Palmquist, The Unlikely Ascent of Sybil Stevens, by Kari Bentley-Quinn, Atalanta K.O., by D.L. Siegel and Still Life, by Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich. From these readings, the festival audience will choose their favorite play, which Artemisia will fully produce in the spring of 2016.

"This is a terrific line-up of female-generated and centered plays. Stories that entertain, enlighten and inspire and are brand new to Chicago," said Artemisia's Founding Director Julie Proudfoot.
