Andrew Lippa's A LITTLE PRINCESS to Play Windy City Music Theatre

By:

Windy City Music Theatre, one of Chicago's fastest-growing professional theatre companies, will present A LITTLE PRINCESS, a musical by Brian Crawley and Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), November 12-27 in Jefferson Park.

A LITTLE PRINCESS is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which was honored by School Library Journal as one of the "Top 100 Chapter Books" of all time. The show will feature a cast of nearly 30 performers - adults, auditioned youth, teens and non-auditioned youth.

Separated from her father and the open-hearted residents of Saint Louis in West Africa, young Sara Crewe is sent to boarding school in London. When things go badly for her there, her imaginative powers come to the rescue - helping to transform a drab institution into a place of magic and mystery. As the girl wins the affection of the other students, she draws the ire of Miss Minchin, the dour headmistress, who forces Sara to work as a maid when her father is reported dead and his fortune seized. Sara counters all Miss Minchin's best efforts to degrade her, all the while maintaining the grace and virtue of a little princess. This fresh, imaginative, joyful production will feature a drum ensemble and beautiful West African-inspired movement.

Directed by Jerry R. Foust, with choreography by Noelle Daniels, A LITTLE PRINCESS features music direction by Jordan Richardson.

Performances run at The Jefferson Playhouse, 4766 No. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60630. This show is great for all ages, and best enjoyed by ages 4 & older. Tickets: Adults, $25 / Youth (17 & under) $20. Book online at www.windycityperforms.org.

Windy City Music Theatre is a professional theatre and performing arts school. The company provides classes, camps, and shows for all ages in its Jefferson Park studios, and in schools around Chicagoland.

Founded as Youth Company Chicago in 2012, WCMT has grown to a bustling program that serves over 1000 students in education programs and performs for thousands and thousands of audience members. More than just another theatre company, WCMT has become an artistic home where teachers, students, parents and community members learn, create, perform, and inspire each other.

In 2015, we renovated and opened the new Jefferson Playhouse, a 66-seat venue that allows us to showcase our students and professionals in a beautiful, intimate blackbox-style theatre.

Windy City Music Theatre is proud to be Chicago Magazine's 2016 Readers' Choice for Best Theatre.

Windy City's MainStage shows are fully-produced, big family musicals performed by professional actors, teens, and youth. These two-hour productions are designed to appeal to our "for and by all ages" philosophy. Audiences who have enjoyed past MainStage shows remark that the shows are uplifting, inspiring, and fun for the whole family - not to mention more economical than larger venues.
