A SONG FOR CORETTA Runs At Eclipse Theatre Company Through 7/26

By: Jul. 01, 2009

Eclipse Theatre Company's 2009 season: The Celebration Series Part II continues with the Chicago Premiere of Pearl Cleage's latest work.

Inspired by the long line of mourners who came by Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay their respects to Mrs. Coretta Scott King, A Song for Coretta introduces five fictional African-American women, aged 17 to 57, waiting in the rain to say their final good-byes. Cleage shows the impact that Mrs. King had on the lives of these women, and the connections that they build with one another through her memory and legacy.

The show is performed Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:30pm, and Sundays at 3:30pm through July 26, 2009 at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago.

Post-show discussions with the cast and crew follow each Sunday matinee performance with the exception of opening and closing weekends.

The show features Eclipse ensemble member TayLar with guest artists Kelly Owens, Kristy Johnson, Niccole Thurman and Ebony Wimbs.

Eclipse ensemble members Sarah Moeller (Director), Chris Corwin (Set Design), Kat Saari (Stage Manager), Nathaniel Swift (Lighting Design), and Katie Vandehey (Dramaturg). Guest artists Adam Smith (Sound Design), Rebecca Russell (Assistant Stage Manager), Kaitlyn Kearn (Costume Design) and Maria DeFabo (Prop Design).
