The Fine Print Theatre Company's third season will feature the world premieres of "Boy Small" by MT Cozzola and "A Place in the Woods" by Erik Gernand, along with the return of the company's hit musical comedy "Christmas in Chicago" and the play development workshop and competition, "Citizens Play Festival."

Boy and Sissy are coming of age in a troubled home. Boy is a rebel whose repeated attempts at freedom have landed him in a dog cage. Sissy's good behavior has won her some autonomy, but she's neither as docile nor as free as she appears. The two have created their own brand of family under the watchful eye of their frustrated father and his self-obsessed second wife. But when Boy embarks on his most extreme bid for freedom, their bond is severed and the family is catastrophically transformed.

"Christmas in Chicago" by David Himmel and Patrick Kenney

directed by Aaron Graham

Fine Print's hit musical comedy returns with all new songs and sketches.

"Equal parts 'Noises Off' and '30 Rock' (for its backstage antics) and 'Forbidden Broadway' (only this time it's satirical spoofs of Christmas carols) -four actors are muddling through a year-in-revue sketch comedy show while sabotaging each other and trying to steal the spotlight." -Chicago Sun-Times (2012 feature)

"A four star revue that knocks over the sacred cows and political correctness with panache and a healthy helping of the sardonic humor that is Chicago. - David Himmel and Patrick Kenney pull out the stops and could teach the writers of SNL quite a bit about what is funny. The cast is top notch and the show is seamlessly directed by Aaron Graham." -Chicago Theater Beat (2011 review)

"A Place in the Woods" by Erik Gernand

directed by Patrick Kenney

April - May, 2014

When Shaun's mother Linda is found wandering and confused in the middle of the night, he packs up his 16-year-old son and makes the trip from Chicago to his hometown of Hunter, Indiana. When he arrives, an old friend in the local police department tells Shaun this isn't the first time his mom's been in danger. Now Shaun must cooperate with his alcoholic older brother, to help Linda confront the siege of dementia. But dark and long-buried memories threaten to rise to the surface, and force the family to confront a past that none of them, not even Shaun, have been able to outrun.

One Winner.

Citizens is a play development process and a friendly festival competition, where Fine Print's audience chooses plays for further development at the company, with an eye toward production.

MT Cozzola's play "Boy Small" was a finalist in the 2012 Citizens Play Festival. The play went on to further development in Fine Print's Fresh Ink series, before being featured in the Saturday Series at Chicago Dramatists.

When Erik Gernand won the 2012 Citizens Play Festival, the seed for "A Place in the Woods" had been planted. Through extended development, the play grew out of a different piece Erik had written exploring the same theme; how memory shapes guilt over time.
