The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Piedmont Players Theatre

Get ready to laugh until you can’t spell “H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!” Piedmont Players Theatre is kicking off its new season with the delightfully funny and heartwarming musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, directed by Jessie Dietzel. The show opens Thursday, October 17th, at the Meroney Theater and runs through November 2nd.

Performances will be held on October 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th, 31st, and November 1st at 7:30 PM, with matinee performances on October 19th, 26th, and November 2nd at 2:30 PM.

This laugh-out-loud musical follows an eclectic group of six awkward yet endearing middle schoolers as they vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. With plenty of audience participation, catchy songs, and wild antics from both kids and adults, Spelling Bee promises a night of sharp wit, big laughs, and unexpected heart.

“I've been so excited to return to directing the Spelling Bee,” says director Jessie Dietzel, who recently helmed the show in 2023. “This show is such a delight to work on. The cast really understands the humor, and the audience gets to have a really great immersive experience. It lets them be kids again, and I think everyone needs that once in a while.”
