The 5th Annual Charlotte Shakespeare Festival, brought by Collaborative Arts, presents THE COMEDY OF ERRORS from June 4th to the 20th, at The Green Uptown. Opening was to be on the Thursday, the 3rd, but has been pushed back due to inclement weather. Patrons are welcomed to attend the final dress rehearsal Thursday at 8 pm.

This farce comedy revolves around two sets of identical twins, who are each separated at birth and remarkably end up in the same city (Ephesus) years later. But to make matters complicated, they don't discover each other right away. Instead, the twins' mistaken identities lead to a series of chaotic rumbles around town.

The schedule for COMEDY OF ERRORS is June 3-5, 8 p.m.; June 6, 6:30 p.m.; June 9-12, 8 p.m.; June 13, 6:30 p.m.; June 16-19, 8 p.m.; and June 20, 6:30 p.m. The Green is located in Uptown Charlotte at 401 S. Tryon Street, between 1st Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (across the street from the Charlotte Convention Center).

There is no admission charge for THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, but donations will be accepted. No reservations are necessary. Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and may bring food and beverages, if desired. Wine, beer and food will also be available for purchase at the evening performances from local restaurants located at The Green.

In celebration of its 5th anniversary, The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival will launch a new pre-show performance series called Festivities featuring a variety of local artists. Since many of our audience members arrive very early for our shows to reserve seats, the festival is pleased to present special pre-show entertainment starting approximately one hour before each show's curtain time. Whet the appetite with a short performance lasting 20-40 minutes featuring local performing artists from a variety of disciplines.

Every Wednesday during the run of THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, patrons can test their knowledge during Shakespeare Trivia Night which will be hosted by the Chuckleheads (www.thechuckleheads.com). The game begins at 7:15. Prizes will be awarded.

Collaborative Arts will offer free educational Shakespeare workshops Sundays at The Green at 5pm, prior that evening's performance of THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. This workshop, led by local actor and drama instructor Greta Marie Zandstra (the actress playing Courtesan), will focus on "playing Shakespeare" and will consist of fun, energetic and interactive games and exercises providing insights into the text of the play. No prior experience or training is necessary. The workshop is open to young people ages 10 and up, as well as adults. Families are invited to attend together. Attendance is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations necessary.
