CPCC Theatre Hosts GODSPELL Talkback

By:

Godspell at CPCC Theatre resumes performances tonight at 7:30pm in Pease Auditorium. Tonight's performance will be followed by a TalkBack with the cast, staff and special guest Rabbi Jonathan Freirich from Temple Beth El.

Rabbi Jonathan Freirich has been Associate Rabbi at Temple Beth El since July 2011. Before coming to Charlotte, he served as the solo clergy at Temple Bat Yam, a Reform synagogue in South Lake Tahoe, for eight years. Prior to that, he worked with Hillel for four years in Tucson, Ariz., and Cleveland, Ohio.  Rabbi Jonathan grew up as a Reform Jew at Central Synagogue in Manhattan and was ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, after attending Middlebury College in Vermont. He has been a longtime member of both the Central Conference of American Rabbis and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association. Rabbi Jonathan explores Judaism using ancient and contemporary lenses of interpretation, valuing mystical and historical insights, along with rationalist and modernist perspectives. His wife, Ginny, is a ketubah (Jewish wedding contract) artist and his son Jude began kindergarten this fall. Rabbi Jonathan likes to say that anything that we love to do can be Jewish, whether that's going to the movies, eating sushi, or going on a run.

Godspell runs October 4 at 7:30pm , October 5,6 at 8:00pm and October 7 at 2:30pm.

Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz composer of Wicked, Pippen and Children of Eden, Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day." As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side," the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love. The production features Ryan Deal, Steven James, Lexis Karabatsos, Ericka Ross, Jennifer Reid, Matt Carlson, Marvin King, Sarah Henkel, MerEdith Owen and Jimmy Chrismon. Direction and Choreography by Stephen and Susan Gundersheim. Music Direction by Ellen Robison.

Tickets are available at the SunTrust Box Office at 704-330-6534, online at tix.cpcc.edu or at the door in Pease Auditorium.
