Sweeney Todd is a musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim. A chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece, Sweeney Todd tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe! The original Broadway production starred Angela Lansbury. The recent film version starred Johnny Depp.

CPCC Theatre's production will star Steven Jepson and Rebecca Cook-Carter. Rebecca is the head of the CPCC Opera Theatre program and has performed with the theatre department as Mother Superior in The Sound of Music and Bloody Mary in South Pacific. Steven was last seen on our stage as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha and as Emile De Becque in South Pacific.  Anthony is being played by Erik D'Esterre. Erik was last seen on the CP stage in My Fair Lady last summer. He was Aladdin in Children's Theatre's production of Disney's Aladdin last Fall. Lisa Smith Bradley returns as the Beggar Woman this Spring. She was part of the quartet in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change in the Fall. She has appeared also as Guinevere in Camelot and various other productions for us over the years. And Robert Nipper comes back this year as Pirelli. Everyone will remember his hilarious turn as Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha.

Three newcomers to our stage will play Judge Turpin, Johanna and Tobias. Kevin Roberge has been performing on stages in Charlotte and Davidson for years. He will make his CP debut as the evil Judge Turpin. Sara Reinecke debuts as the show's ingénue to sing Johanna and Ashton Guthrie takes some time from his busy schedule at Northwest School of the Arts to play Tobias.
