CPCC Opera Theatre to Perform Hansel & Gretel 11/19, 11/21
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) Opera Theatre is pleased to bring Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel to life on the College's prestigious Halton Theater stage. Audiences of all ages will enjoy Humperdinck's spin on the classic Grimm Brothers' tale this holiday season.
Hansel and Gretel was first performed in 1894 and has become Humperdinck's most famous opera. Audiences delight in the folk music inspired themes that are woven throughout the production as the story follows a young brother and sister who discover a house of candy, located in a nearby forest. Little do they know the residence is the home of a cannibalistic witch who holds them hostage. Thankfully the pair escapes her clutches and lives happily ever after. CPCC Opera Theatre attendees will be treated to the vocal talents of Lyric Coloratura Soprano Jenny Chen (Gretel) who has been praised in Opera News for her "confident technique" and "bright, penetrating sound," and Tenor Dale Bryant (Witch) who has gained notoriety performing with such production troupes as Opera Carolina, The National Opera Company and Opera Carolina Theatre. Both of these artists will appear on stage under the direction of conductor David Tang, artistic director of Carolina Voices and director of the Firebird Arts Alliance, a non-profit arts organization committed to building community by fostering artistic collaborations throughout the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region.WHEN: November 19 and 20, 8 p.m.; November 21, 2:30 p.m.
