York Little Theatre will present GYPSY June 20-22 and 26-29 in the Studio. GYPSY takes place during the colorful life of the theatre in the 1920's. The musical tells the backstage tale of vaudeville entertainer turned burlesque stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her overbearing mother, Rose. Rose battles directors, theatre owners and hotel managers in her efforts to push her two daughters toward stardom during the dying days of vaudeville.

This musical fable was created by two-time Tony Award winner Arthur Laurents, with music by two-time Tony Award winner Jule Styne and lyrics by multiple Tony Award winner Stephen Sondheim. The legendary score boasts such classics as Everything's Coming Up Roses, Together Wherever We Go, Let Me Entertain You, and Some People.

GYPSY is directed by Christopher Quigley. Vocal Direction is by Jacquie Sutton and Choreography is by Ciara Driscoll. A cast of outstanding local talent is led by Chris Ausherman, as Rose. She is joined by Dr. Bob Filer as Herbie (Michael Ausherman in this role on June 29) and Jenna Mae Reck as Louise/Gypsy. Hillary Miller and Cory Holtzman appear as Dainty June and Tulsa.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, and 3pm on Sundays. Patrons can save $2 off regular admission price if they purchase tickets prior to opening night. Group sales are available. Go to ylt.org or call 854-5715 for advance tickets and more information. Tickets will be available at the door one hour before the performance, if available.
