MY NAME IS ASHER LEV Opens at Harrisburg Shakespeare Company Tonight
Harrisburg Shakespeare Company will continue its 2012-2013 Mainstage Season with Aaron Posner's MY NAME IS ASHER LEV, adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok, which will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from tonight, January 18 - February 3 at Gamut Classic Theatre, located on the Third Floor of Strawberry Square, Downtown Harrisburg.
MY NAME IS ASHER LEV follows the journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his Hassidic upbringing and his desperate need to fulfill his artistic promise. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith. This stirring adaptation of a modern classic presents a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist.
MY NAME IS ASHER LEV had it's world premier at the Arden Theater Company in Philadelphia in 2009, and was directed by the play's adapter, Aaron Posner. Posner also adapted (with the author as co-adapter) another Chaim Potok novel, THE CHOSEN, which Gamut produced in 2008.
Gamut Theatre Group is led by Artistic Director Clark Nicholson and Executive Director Melissa Nicholson.
MY NAME IS ASHER LEV will be presented at Gamut Classic Theatre in Strawberry Square from January 18 through February 3 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and on Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets are $27 for adults and $17 for students/seniors.
Friday performances are Buy-One-Get-One free ticket shows (except for Opening Night); Saturday evening performances are Bottle of Wine shows, where one admission is free with purchase of a regular-priced admission and donation of a bottle of wine for HSC's annual Shakespeare's Birthday celebration; Sunday performances are Bring Your Own Price shows, where any size donation buys your admission.
