EPAC Stages LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Now thru 8/8

By:

La Cage Aux Folles stormed the Broadway stage in 1983, grabbing nine Tony Award nominations and six wins, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. Based on Jean Poiret's 1973 French play, La Cage Aux Folles was first brought to the big screen in 1978 and then the 1996 American film The Birdcage starring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Gene Hackman. Ephrata Performing Arts Center will present this French-adapted classic at EPAC's Sharadan Bigler Theatre. The production opens tonight, July 23, 2015, and runs through August 8, 2015.

Enjoy the bawdy and boisterous antics unfolding at a Saint Tropez nightclub owned by Georges and headlined by his longtime love Albin. The drama unfolds when Georges' son, Jean-Michel, brings his fiancée's conservative parents' home for dinner, prompting the pair to try to conceal their lifestyle and ownership of the drag club downstairs! Cues of acceptance and inclusion make this musical comedy even more relevant today.

Rich Repkoe will direct. Led by Repkoe, this slapstick comedy will keep audiences entertained from act to act. Follow son Jean-Michel's plight as he tries to juggle love and loyalty in this unconventional tale of family values.

La Cage Aux Folles will run from July 23, 2015, through August 8, 2015, at EPAC's Sharadin Bigler Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at ephrataperformingartscenter.com or by calling 733-7966 x 1. Wednesday and Thursday shows are at 7:30pm; Friday night shows are at 8 pm; Saturday matinee is at 2 pm. Ticket prices are $25 - $32 for evening shows and $22 for the matinee.
