World Premiere of THE HOUSE Opens Kitchen Theatre Company's 2014-15 Season Tonight

By:

Kitchen Theatre Company begins its 24th Season tonight, September 10, 2014 with the world premiere of an outrageous new comedy, The House by Brian Parks. Downsizing couple, Martyn and Shanny, have struck a For Sale By Owner deal with upsizing couple, Lindsay and Fischer. The empty nesters are set to move to a condo, and the young couple is ready to move in and start a family. But a house full of everything a family accumulates is a lot to pack, so the new owners have given the sellers a few weeks to finish the job.

At the start of the play, Martyn, a prosperous dentist, and his homemaker wife Shanny are hosting a celebratory champagne toast to Lindsay and Fischer, replete with a ceremonial handing over of the keys. But what begins as the celebration of a simple transaction deliciously spirals into a hilarious, irreverent, uncensored free-for-all. Hold on to your seats as the best of intentions unravel, revealing surprise after surprise after surprise!

Brian Parks' plays Americana Absurdum, Goner, Out of the Way, Suspicious Package, Splayfoot (American Poodle), The Invitation, and Imperial Fizz have been produced in New York, California, Texas, and Iowa, as well as in the U.K., Germany, Austria, and Ireland. Americana Absurdum helped launch the New York International Fringe Festival, won a Fringe First award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and was subsequently produced at London's Menier Chocolate Factory theater.

The world premiere of The House has a creative team with lots of Kitchen Theatre Company experience. Long-time Kitchen Theatre associate, resident director Margarett Perry, returns to start the season. Recent Kitchen Theatre Company credits include: Heroes, Cock, Seminar, Call Me Waldo among many others. Kitchen Theatre Company veteran Tyler M. Perry (Venus in Fur, Opus, What I Thought I Knew, Slashes of Light, Lungs and many others) is the set and lighting designer. Lisa Boquist (Venus in Fur, Opus, Heroes, Cock, Black Pearl Sings!, among many others) is costume designer, and Lesley Greene (Venus in Fur, Opus, Crooked, The Whipping Man, among others) the sound designer. Underwriters are Elissa Cogan and Barry Chester. Media sponsor is Cayuga Radio Group. Previews are September 10-12, Opening Night is September 13, and the play runs through September 28.

Kitchen Theatre Company is the small professional Equity theater producing an eight-play Mainstage season from September through June. Led by Artistic Director Rachel Lampert and Managing Director Stephen Nunley, KTC produces new and modern plays that reflect the theater's mantra "important conversations happen in the Kitchen." Known as Central New York's Off-Broadway for over two decades, Kitchen Theatre Company is located at 417 W.
