The Department of Speech, Communication & Theatre Arts, The Office of Academic Affairs, & The Tribeca Performing Arts Center with aid from the BMCC Foundation present Swipe, A New Musical by Maggie Diaz Bofill, directed by Lori Kee will premiere April 18th-22nd at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center (Theatre II). Swipe is the story of young New Yorkers making their way up, in a city that can seem like it's trying to keep you down.
Written for the students of BMCC by LAByrinth Theatre Company founding member Maggie Diaz Bofill, Swipe is a symphony of living urban poetry, a tale told through story and song, all in a piece created especially for the students of BMCC. In Swipe, we share their challenges and beautiful moments with love, money, identity, dreams, school, neighborhood, art, and the heart.
This is the second time BMCC's Theatre Program has paired with a LAByrinth playwright to work on a piece that is in process of development. This time the story comes from our students, reflects our city its young diverse population. Filled with all the grit, struggle and passion of the New York City streets Swipe will be introducing audiences to a whole new generation of aspiring thespians.
The design team includes: Musical Direction/Arrangement & Sound Design Andy Evan Cohen, Scenic Design by Elizabeth Chaney, Lighting Design Benjamin Ehrenreich, and Costumes Design by Vanessa Leuck.
Swipe will be presented at Tribeca Performing Arts Center (Theater II), 199 Chambers Street, April 18, 19, 20, 21, 2018 @ 7pm, April 18, 21, 22, 2018 @ 2pm.
