Red House Arts Center's 2015-16 Season to Open with BIG FISH, Begin. 9/17
Red House Arts Center is thrilled to open its 2015/16 season with Big Fish with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by John Wallace. This production will open on September 17th and run through October 3rd. This bigger than life musical tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman with a huge heart, enormous spirit, and an extraordinary vision of the world. Big Fish is based on Daniel Wallace's 1998 novel, Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions, and the 2003 film Big Fish written by August and directed by Tim Burton. The musical revolves around the relationship between Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman, and his adult son Will, who looks for what is behind his father's tall stories.The story has drawn comparisons to The Odyssey, The Music Man and The Wizard of Oz. Big Fish premiered on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on September 5, 2013 in previews, opening officially on October 6, 2013.
This Redhouse production is directed by Stephen Svoboda with Musical Direction by Patrick Burns. Redhouse is proud to introduce three new resident staff members, Andrea Ball who is designing the set, Greg Griffin who is designing lights, and Chad Tallon who is the Redhouse Production Manager. Familiar names include Anthony Vadala (Sound Design), Katherine Tarkulich (Costume Design) Erin Lafferty (Choreography) and Elise Shuford (Properties Manager) and newcomer Shelly Cooper (Assistant Director).
The cast includes some Redhouse favorites; John Bixler(Gross Indecency, A Man of No Importance, Macbeth, Spelling Bee), Carmen Viviano Crafts(A Man of No Importance, Noises Off!), Max Anderson(Tarzan,The Color Purple), Krystal Scott(Assassins, Hair Spray, Bat Boy), David Cotter(Carousel, Spelling Bee), Ben Wells(Spelling Bee, Music Man), and Galen Sato (Much Ado About Nothing). The rest of the cast features 22 local professional actors as well as students, most of whom have already graced the Redhouse stage. This production of Big Fish is sponsored by Show Us CNY, Central New York Community Foundation, and The Gifford Foundation.
