Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward will begin tomorrow, September 18, at Syracuse Stage, directed by Michael Barakiva and running through October 6, 2013. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The funniest ghost story ever written. Novelist Charles Condomine enlists Madame Arcati, one of the most delightfully eccentric characters you will ever meet, to hold a séance at his home hoping to raise some ideas for a new book. Instead, she raises the ghost of his former wife, Elvira, who is determined to wreak havoc (and succeeds) on Charles' current marriage to Ruth. Recently revived on Broadway to hilarious effect, Blithe Spirit is one of Coward's most sparkling comedies.
Famous for his wit and flamboyance, the Academy Award-winning Noel Coward was an English playwright, composer, director, actor and singer. After his London office and flat had been destroyed in the Blitz, he wrote Blithe Spirit, sensing that British audiences would respond well to an escapist comedy. Michael Barakiva is a director based in New York City who previously directed The Turn of the Screw and The Clean House at Syracuse Stage.
