Blackfriars Theatre to Present TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, 11/15-24
The stage incarnation of the treasured bestseller, Tuesdays with Morrie, makes its Blackfriars Theatre premiere in what is sure to be a play that will stay with you long after you've left the theatre. Tuesdays with Morrie tells the true story of its author, Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and his former college professor, Morrie. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie's appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig's Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.
The book was on The New York Times Bestseller List for more than four years with more than fourteen million copies sold, has been translated into 41 languages and adapted into an Emmy-winning television film presented by Oprah Winfrey making Tuesdays with Morrie a landmark in popular culture. The stage adaptation, co-authored by Mitch Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher, made its New York debut in 2002...on a Tuesday.
Greg Byrne will headline as Morrie and Stefan Cohen will star as Mitch. Blackfriars Artistic Director John Haldoupis will direct. "I am delighted to bring this new classic, from the page to stage with two of Rochester's most distinguished performers, in what promises to be a memorable evening in the theatre."
