About this camp
The Nature Place Day Camp is a nature-oriented, non-competitive summer day camp on 200 acres in Chestnut Ridge, Rockland County, New York, serving campers ages 4 through 16. Founded in 1985, the program is built around unhurried time outdoors rather than packed scheduling or team sports. Campers hike in Harriman State Park, tend a working farm, muck in streams, canoe, do archery, garden, cook, build in woodworking, climb a high ropes course and swim in a natural pond. Arts offerings include music, drama and West African dance and drumming. Older campers take on leadership roles and multi-day hiking trips; younger campers are grouped by age and grade. There are no devices at camp and no scorekeeping. Campers enroll for four, five or six weeks, and buses run from Manhattan, Astoria, Hoboken, Jersey City, Montclair, Bergen County and Westchester County. The camp is ACA accredited.
Campers enroll for four, five or six weeks. Four-week enrollments are limited and must start in week 1 or 2, with the first two weeks consecutive.
