Burning Coal - Summer Theatre Conservatory

The Summer Theatre Conservatory is Burning Coal Theatre Company's intensive three-week conservatory for students ages 12 to 19 who want professional-level training in a supportive 'theatre family' environment. Mornings consist of master classes taught by guest artists drawn from professional theatres and college programs across North Carolina, covering areas such as stage combat, auditioning, Shakespeare text, Meisner technique and voice work. Afternoons are devoted to rehearsing a classic or modern classic play or musical, with the third week focused on tech and dress rehearsals ahead of two public performances. No previous theatre experience is required and every enrolled student receives a role. Students interested in design, assistant directing or stage management can request technical placements, and the company welcomes students of all abilities. Partial scholarships are available.

Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm; drop-off 9:30-10am and pick-up 4-4:30pm. Application deadline July 1. Registration for STC 2027 opens January 2027. Partial scholarships available. The 2027 production had not been announced as of the 2026 posting.
