Nixon's 'Breakthrough' with Guests Norm Lewis and More

In BREAKTHROUGH Broadway star and 1998 Olivier Award nominee April Nixon is taking the stage at the Laurie Beechman Theatre for the next two coming Mondays in May with special guests, including Little Mermaid's Norm Lewis, RENT's Marcus Paul James, and Lion King's Lisa Nicole Wilkerson, among others. This show will be directed by Phillip George (Shout! A Mod Musical, Forbidden Broadway), with musical direction by Mamma Mia's Wendy Cavett.

BREAKTHROUGH will consist of songs that are written by some of NYC's top Broadway writing team's including Larry O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and Kenny Kacmar and Joe Miloscia who have lent their writing talents to write brand new songs for this memorable evening.  April Nixon's ability to command a stage and capture audiences, combined with the directing talents of Phillip George, makes this a show not to miss!

April Nixon's career consists of roles on Broadway, in Broadway national tours, regional theater, and television and film.  Her past Broadway credits over the past 18 year's include Cats, Tommy, Smokey Joe's Cafe, The Wiz ( w Stephanie Mills), Purlie (w Blair Underwood), Fosse, Sweet Charity, Dreamgirls ( with Jennifer Holiday) and the show that garnished April her 1998 Olivier Award Nomination, Damn Yankees, as Lola,  playing opposite film legend Jerry Lewis in London's West End. April has worked with the late Michael Peters, Gwen Verdon, Ann Reinking, Chita Rivera, Dave Chapelle, Gordon Clapp, Jim Carrey, Wayne Brady, Graciella Daniel, Jack O'Brien, George Faison, Walter Bobbie, and Sheldon Epps.

BREAKTHROUGH is a two night only event at the Laurie Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Cafe.   407 West 42nd Street The performances are Monday, May 12th, 2008 at 7:00 pm and Monday May 19th at 9:30pm.  Cover: $15, $15 food/bev minimum.
