Karen Akers, international chanteuse and cabaret star, returns for her ninth consecutive spring engagement at the legendary Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel (59 West 44th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues).

Beginning Tuesday, May 13th and playing through Saturday, June 14th, Ms. Akers will present an all-new show entitled Move On.  Fresh from the triumph of last spring's critically-acclaimed engagement of Simply Styne (which has just been released on DRG Records), this new program is a wry and sophisticated, rueful yet hopeful look at the universal challenge of starting over.  A deeply personal evening of story and song using the poetry of Algonquin habitué Dorothy Parker and the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim ("The Glamorous Life"), Cole Porter ("Down in the Depths"),  and Rodgers & Hart ("This Funny World"), along with new  songs by contemporary composers Amanda McBroom & Michele Brourman ("Hope Floats") and Stephen Flaherty & Lynn Ahrens ("I Was Here," "My Garden"),  Karen explores what happens when life's unexpected twists and turns force us to make peace with the past, pick ourselves up, and face the future.   From Lieber & Stoller's "Ready to Begin Again" to Maury Yeston's gorgeously romantic "Only With You," Move On  reveals many sides of Karen Akers in a way that allows the audience to rediscover both the artist and the woman.

Ms. Akers will be accompanied on piano by her longtime musical director Don Rebic. The evening is directed by Eric Michael Gillett who directed last year's Simply Styne.

Performances are: Tuesdays – Thursdays at 9:00PM with two shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:00PM and 11:30PM.  There is a $65 music charge for all shows plus a $30 minimum.  At the early shows on Fridays and Saturdays, there is a $70 prix-fixe dinner charge with dinner seating's at 7:00PM and 7:30PM.  For reservations, call the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel at (212) 419-9331.
