Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with the following acts:

September 10 (Monday) at 7:00PM

Amanda McBroom

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/songwriter Amanda McBroom will return to the historic stage with "My Favorite Things." She will bring an evening of musical inspiration and favorite things to Birdland, with words and music from the likes of Annie LaMott, Stephen Sondheim, Fran Landesman, Cole Porter, Jacques Brel, Michele Brourman, and, of course, McBroom herself. The evening promises to be one to calm the jitters, raise the hackles, and hopefully heal the heart.

Jenn Colella & Chilina Kennedy "Call It Love" at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Birdland Theater is proud to announce that Broadway leading ladies Jenn Colella and Chilina Kennedy will perform a song cycle written and composed by Ms. Kennedy. "Call It Love" is a song cycle written and composed by Broadway's Chilina Kennedy (Beautiful, Jesus Christ Superstar) starring Tony Nominee Jenn Colella (Come From Away, If/Then). The show grapples with the way we love, both ourselves and others, and how we self-identify and create family in our complex age of information and reputation. "Call It Love" has been arranged by Rick Fox (Jesus Christ Superstar) and directed by Mark Schnieder (Miss Saigon).

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

September 11 (Tuesday) at 7:00PM

Aaron Lazar "Broadway to Hollywood" at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Aaron Lazar's acclaimed cabaret "Broadway to Hollywood" is an evening of comedy and romance with dozens of Broadway's greatest songs from stage and screen. Co-written with legendary American comedy writer Bruce Vilanch, and with musical direction by Jesse Kissel, "Broadway to Hollywood" comes to Birdland's newest space after standing ovations in LA and NYC.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Borislav Strulev at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

World-renowned cellist Borislav Strulev has been fascinating audiences on some of the world's most prestigious stages since his U.S. debut at the Kennedy Center in 1993 arranged on initiative of Isaac Stern, Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn and Byron Janis.

Roseanna Vitro "Tell Me The Truth" CD Release Celebration at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

The songs featured on GRAMMY® Nominated Vocalist Roseanna Vitro's new album, Tell Me the Truth, have been harvested from the roots and vines of our Southern musical tradition, seasoned by the regional colors of gospel, blues, jazz, r&b and country, featuring songs written or popularized by mentors: Jon Hendricks, Allen Toussaint, Mose Allison, Mavis Staples, Boz Scaggs and The Everly Brothers.

The Birdland Big Band

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! Billy Stritch

Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scenes. He began his career in Houston, Texas, where he formed the vocal trio Montgomery, Plant and Stritch. The trio performed all over New York and Europe from 1983 until they disbanded in 1990. A chance meeting with Liza Minnelli in March of 1991 resulted in her asking him to create vocal arrangements for the record-breaking extravaganza Liza Stepping Out at Radio City Music Hall. In addition to his 25-year collaboration with Liza, Billy recently toured with the legendary Tony Bennett as his musical director. A solo entertainer in his own right, he has performed his own shows (including tributes to Mel Tormé and Cy Coleman) in concert halls and nightclubs across the country and in the UK. Billy also serves as music director for such leading vocalists as Linda Lavin, Christine Ebersole, Paulo Szot and Marilyn Maye

Erkin Kydykbaev & Salt Peanuts Jazz Band

Kyrgyzstan's Erkin Kydykbaev is the band's leading artist and is a talented rising bassist. He counts jazz legend Ron Carter as his mentor. His band Salt Peanuts is a popular Kyrgyz jazz group that has been in existence for almost 15 years. Their name from the Russian more accurately translated to "salted nuts," but they have their own preferred English-language name, taken from a famous Dizzy Gillespie tune. Salt Peanuts, the Kyrgyz Republic's leading jazz band, were one of the first jazz groups to arise in independent Kyrgyzstan. Their style is actually a mix of jazz-adjacent genres, including ethno-jazz, fusion, and jazz rock.

Cheryl Bentyne and Mark Winkler at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Birdland Theater is proud to present multiple Grammy-winning vocalist Cheryl Bentyne and platinum-award winning vocalist/lyricist Mark Winkler in celebration of the release of their new CD "Eastern Standard Time." The concept is this: imagine it's New York circa 1959 and you stroll into one of those little clubs they had in the Village like The Half Note or The Bon Soir or Chantilly's. The duo will sing the songs you probably would have heard-written by the likes of Bob Dorough, Fran Landesman and Cy Coleman. Mark and Cheryl filter these cool tunes through today's lens, then add a pinch of fun.

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Named for alto saxophonist and jazz pioneer Charlie "Bird" Parker who dubbed it "The Jazz Corner of the World," Birdland opened on December 15th 1949. For 60 years it has been home to jazz legends, from Parker, John Coltrane Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Diana Krall and everyone in between. The original 52nd street location was a cultural barometer and meeting place, inspiring the songs "Birdland" and "Lullaby of Birdland," and serving as a regular haunt for celebrities and cultural figures.
