Variety reports that Showtime has canceled its long-running series WEEDS. The half-hour comedy from Lionsgate first aired on the cable network in 2005 and features Broadway vet Hunter Parrish. The upcoming eighth and final season of the show is currently in production and is set to air July 1.

WEEDS centers on pot-selling single mom turned danger junkie Nancy Botwin's desperate circumstances keep calling for more and more desperate measures. Mary-Louise Parker stars in the hit series along with Hunter Parrish, Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon. Parker received a a Golden Globe in 2006, the same year the show was nominated for an award.  Several cast members were Emmy nominated over the years as well.

The series was created by Jenji Kohan who also serves as the show's executive producer along with Roberto Benabib, Matthew Salsberg and Mark A. Burley.

Hunter Parrish appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakenings and starred as Jesus in the recent Broadway revival of 'Godspell' at Circle in the Square Theater. His film credits include 'It's Complicated' and '17 Again.'
