NBC's DATELINE Ranks Among Week's Top Big 4 Telecasts

With "America's Got Talent," "American Ninja Warrior" and "I Can Do That" delivering the top three primetime ratings of the week on the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, NBC has won the week of May 25-31 among those nets in adults 18-49 and all other key measures (including a tie for #1 in women 18-34). According to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, NBC averaged a 1.3 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall for the week.

"Talent" ranked #1 for the week among Big 4 primetime programs in every key measure except men 18-34, where NBC Sports' Saturday coverage of the Anaheim Ducks-Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Playoff hockey game finished #1. "Talent" also took the top spot for the week in kids 2-11 and teens 12-17.

The week included Tuesday's debut of "I Can Do That," the top summer series premiere in 18-49 on the Big 4 networks in nearly two years, since "Under the Dome" launched on CBS in June 2013.

NBC matched its year-ago weekly average in adult 18-49 rating (1.3 vs. 1.3) and grew +5% in total viewers (5.5 million vs. 5.2 million), making it the only Big 4 network to maintain its 18-49 rating for the same week last year and improve on its year-ago total-viewer average.

NBC placed six shows among the week's top 15 primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49: Tuesday's "America's Got Talent" (#1), Monday's "American Ninja Warrior" (tied for #2), Tuesday's premiere of "I Can Do That" (tied for #2), Saturday's Ducks-Blackhawks hockey (tied for #6), Thursday's "Dateline NBC" (tied for #10) and Monday's debut of "The Island" (tied for #10). Also finishing among the week's top telecasts was Friday's "Dateline" (tied for #15), Thursday's premiere of "Aquarius" (tied for #15), Wednesday's "iHeartRadio Country Festival 2015" (tied for #27) and Sunday's "Dateline" (tied for #27).

For the 52-week 2014-15 season to date, NBC ranks #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and is #1 or tied for #1 among those nets in men 18-49 and adults and men 18-34.

In total viewers, NBC is #2 for the season, and running within 7% of its year-ago Olympics-boosted average (8.5 million vs. 9.1 million), making this season and last NBC's two top-scoring seasons in total viewers at this point since the 2006-07 season. This is the second year in a row NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers at this point in the season, marking first two times since 2003-04 that NBC has ranked higher than #4 in total viewers at this point.

Primetime averages for the week of May 25-31 in adults 18-49 are: NBC, 1.3/5; ABC, 0.9/3; Fox, 0.8/3; CBS, 0.8/3; and CW, 0.3/1. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: NBC, 5.5 million; CBS, 5.4 million; ABC, 3.9 million; Fox, 2.7 million; and CW, 1.0 million.

"Most current" averages for the 52-week 2014-15 season to date are: NBC, 2.4/8; CBS, 2.3/7; ABC, 2.1/7; Fox, 1.9/6; and CW, 0.8/3. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.0 million; NBC, 8.5 million; ABC, 7.9 million; Fox, 5.7 million; and CW, 2.1 million.

NBC highlights for the week of May 25-31:

Monday

NBC won Monday night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and all key adult-male demos, led by the #1 show of the night on those networks in 18-49 and total viewers, "American Ninja Warrior."

The fourth season premiere of "American Ninja Warrior" (1.8/6 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) grew versus last year's debut by +13% in adult 18-49 rating (1.8 vs. 1.6) and +26% in total viewers (5.9 million vs. 4.7 million). In the time period, "American Ninja Warrior" ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key measures and was the night's #1 telecast on those networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and all key adult-male demos.

"Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "American Ninja Warrior" grew by +11% in 18-49 rating going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" Nielsens (from a 1.78 rating to a 1.98) and by 506,000 viewers overall (from 5.9 million to 6.4 million).

The debut of "The Island" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) ranked #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in men 18-49 and men 25-54. "The Island" maintained the 1.2 rating in the time period the prior two weeks for "The Night Shift." L+3: "The Island" grew by +14% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.15 to 1.31). In total viewers, "The Island" increased by 557,000 persons (from 3.7 million to 4.3 million).

Tuesday

NBC won Tuesday night among the Big 4 in every key measure, as the #1 and #2 shows of the night in all key demographics, "America's Got Talent" and "I Can Do That," swept six of six half-hours among the Big 4 in 18-49 and total viewers.

The season premiere of "America's Got Talent" (2.6/9 in 18-49, 11.1 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) grew +8% versus last summer's finale in 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.4 from 8-10:01 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014) and equaled or topped 13 of its 15 Tuesday telecasts from last summer. "America's Got Talent" ranked as the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 in every key measure (adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers). L+3: "America's Got Talent" increased by +25% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (2.63 to 3.29). In total viewers, "Talent" grew by 2.0 million persons (from 11.1 million to 13.1 million).

The debut of "I Can Do That" (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) scored the highest 18-49 rating for a summer series premiere on the Big 4 networks in nearly two years, since CBS's "Under The Dome" debuted with a 3.3 on June 24, 2013). "I Can Do That" also matched NBC's top summer series premiere in three years, since "American Ninja Warrior" debuted with a 2.4 on May 21, 2012 (equaling over that span the 1.8 of "The Winner Is..." preview that aired from 10:01-11 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013). "I Can Do That" finished #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key measure and matched the ABC-CBS competition combined in 18-49 (1.8 vs. 0.9 each for ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" season premiere and CBS's "48 Hours" encore). "I Can Do That" ranked as the #2 telecast of the night on the Big 4 in every key demographic, behind only "America's Got Talent." L+3: "I Can Do That" grew by +12% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.77 to 1.99). The L+3 increase of 0.22 of a point is the biggest for an NBC alternative series in three years, since "Off Their Rockers" grew by 0.35 (1.89 to 2.24) with its April 4, 2012 debut. In total viewers, "I Can Do That" increased by 679,000 persons (from 6.4 million to 7.1 million).

Wednesday

An encore telecast of "I Can Do That" averaged a 0.7/3 in 18-49 and 2.9 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET.

"iHeartRadio Country Festival 2015" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) tied for the slot lead for its second hour from 10-11 p.m. among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and ranked #1 or tied for #1 among those nets from 10-11 in adults 18-34 and all key adult-male demos

Thursday

"Dateline NBC" (1.2/5 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall) tied for the #2 rating of the night on the Big 4 networks and ranked #1 on those nets in women 18-49 (with a 1.7 rating).

The premiere of "Aquarius" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 during its first hour and ranked #1 outright during it second. For that second hour from 10-11 p.m., "Aquarius" ranked #1 or tied for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key measures. "Aquarius" grew versus NBC's prior debut of a Thursday summer drama, "Saving Hope" (0.7 in 18-49, 3.237 million viewers from 10-11 p.m. on Thurs., June 7, 2012). Compared with those results, "Aquarius" is up 0.3 of a point or +43% in 18-49 and +75% in total viewers.

NBC ranked #2 among the Big 4 networks Thursday night in adults 18-49 and #1 in total viewers. L+3: "Aquarius" increased by +35% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.05 to 1.42). In total viewers, "Aquarius" grew by 1.5 million persons (from 5.7 million to 7.2 million).

Friday

NBC tied for #1 for the night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.

From 8-10 p.m., an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (0.9/4 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49. From its first hour to its second, the "Talent" encore grew by +43% in adult 18-49 rating (0.7 to 1.0).

"Dateline NBC" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) won the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and was #1 or tied for #1 among those nets in men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 25-54. "Dateline's 1.6 rating in adults 25-54 tied it as the #1 telecast of the night on the Big 4 networks and its 1.1 in adults 18-49 ranked #2 for the night on those nets. "Dateline NBC" equaled its highest rating in seven weeks in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 (since April 10, 1.3 in 18-49, 1.7 in 25-54). Upscale: The prior week's Friday "Dateline" delivered the highest concentration of high-income homes among that night's primetime telecasts on the Big 4 networks, indexing at a 98 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

Saturday

NBC dominated the night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key measures with NBC Sports coverage of Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey, featuring the Anaheim Ducks at the Chicago Blackhawks (1.5/6 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall from 8 p.m.-11:03 p.m. ET). It's NBC's top-rated Saturday in 18-49 since Jan. 10 (1.9 with an NFL Playoff overrun) and most-watched Saturday since Feb. 21 (5.3 million with "Dateline Mystery" and "SNL Vintage"). The average 4.6 million is a record

for a non-Stanley Cup Final telecast on NBC on record (since 1994).

Sunday

NBC won the night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and other key demos.

"Dateline NBC" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m. ET) won the 7-9 p.m. time period among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and other key demographics. "Dateline" was the #1 telecast of the night on the Big 4 in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. Week to week, "Dateline NBC" grew +43% in adults 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.7) and +41% or 1.8 million persons in total viewers (6.2 million vs. 4.4 million). "Dateline NBC" matched its highest 18-49 rating for a Sunday edition since April 26 (1.1) and scored its biggest total-viewer result since January 25 (6.7 million viewers overall from 7-8 p.m.).

"A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) won the time slot among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures. Week to week, "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" grew +29% in adults 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.7) and +12% in total viewers (4.7 million vs. 4.2 million). "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" delivered its highest 18-49 rating since May 10 (0.9). L+3: The previous week's "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +20% in 18-49 rating (0.71 to 0.85) and in total viewers by 799,000 persons (4.2 million to 5.0 million).

"American Odyssey" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) increased by +25% or 0.1 of a rating point week to week in adults 18-49 (0.5 vs. 0.4) and by +20% in total viewers (3.0 million vs. 2.5 million). "American Odyssey" equaled its highest 18-49 rating since April 12 (0.8) and attracted its biggest overall audience since May 3 (3.1 million viewers overall). L+3: The prior week's "American Odyssey" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +38% in 18-49 rating (0.42 to 0.58) and in total viewers by 850,000 persons (2.5 million to 3.3 million).
