Music of the Americas To Present Screening of NELSON FREIRE

Join Music of the Americas in its spring feature screening of renowned filmmaker, João Moreira Salles', award-winning documentary on the life and work of Brazilian concert pianist Nelson Freire. The legendary musician will be in attendance as the special guest.

Born in 1944, Brazilian concert pianist Nelson Freire began playing the piano at age 3. For his first public performance at age 4, Freire chose Mozart's Sonata in A major, K. 331. By 1964, Freire had won first prize at the Vianna da Motta International Music Competition (Lisbon), the Dinu Lipatti Medal, and the Harriet Cohen Medal (London). In December 2001, he chaired the jury for the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris. His debut at The BBC Proms was in August 2005.

Admission is free and open to the public and seating will be first come, first served for those not pre-registered.

This event is part of Cinema Tropical's new film series, MUSIC+FILM BRAZIL, programmed by Mary Jane Marcasiano and sponsored by the Consulate General of Brazil in New York, with additional support from the Brazilian Music Foundation and Hélio Campos.
