Mick Jagger, Tate Taylor Parter with Brian Grazer for James Brown Biopic

The Rolling Stones' frontman, Mick Jagger, and THE HELP's Tate Taylor, have joined Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer in bringing a biopic based on James Brown to the big screen, Deadline Hollywood reported this afternoon. Jagger will produce, while Taylor is expected to directed.

The film, based on screenplay by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, centers around Brown's life journey from poverty to the legend of soul. No one has yet to be cast as Brown.

As Jagger told Deadline, “It’s a great honor to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life.”

Brown's family are also onboard with the biopic.

“I am deeply honored that Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer, two of my husband JAmes Brown’s favorite people, have entered into a partnership to bring his inspirational story to the big screen,” said Brown’s widow, Tommie Rae Brown. His daughter, Deanna Brown Thomas, also added, “My father’s music has been a beacon to people all over the world and now his life story will impact future generations and show Why he is respected as The Godfather of Soul, Mr. JAmes Brown!”

Jagger will produce via his Production Company Jagged Films. The team is currently seeking global and domestic distribution.
