Marilyn Monroe's Iconic GENTLEMAN PREFER BLONDES to Air on Reel 13 This June
The musical comedy Gentleman Prefer Blondes is featured in the abbreviated June lineup on Reel 13. Adapted from the hit 1949 Broadway musical, which made Carol Channing a star, the film version offered Monroe a star vehicle for the "dumb blonde" persona that launched the mid-50's mania around her. Monroe's pink dress and performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" are perhaps the most iconic movie sequence of her entire career.Leading Ladies is the month's independent offering. The series is pre-empted for special pledge programming on June 4, 11 and 18. Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classic followed by an Indie, presented by Columbia University professor Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.
