Just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month, "Letting Go," a short film made by a family of Latinas, has started making the rounds on the film festival circuit.

Nominated for Best Drama at the Official Latino Film & Arts Festival, "Letting Go" explores the grief of a daughter whose mother battled cancer over the span of a lifetime.

Actor, writer and director Lisann Valentin, partnered with her sister Jillian Valentin, and their mother, Elisa Millayes, to create The Millayes Company, a Production Company whose goal is to tell female-focused stories. And their stories hit close to home: Valentin wrote "Letting Go" when she lost her grandmother. "Although I was grieving, I was really inspired by the love between the women in our family, and I started to realize that this kind of love never really disappears, even when the vessel of that love has left this world," says the director.

Jillian Valentin agrees, saying, "the film explores the dynamics between mothers and daughters; how roles reverse and intertwine over time; and how the love they share will give them the strength they need to move on."

And no matter how many times they've seen the film, it still hits the heart. "I watched the film at our New York premiere and I cried, again!" says Elisa Millayes.

Beyond the film festival circuit, the trio aims to ultimately bring the film directly to indie film lovers who might benefit from its message. "We wanted to create something cathartic for all those who have experienced the waves of grief -- since it's a very personal tale, we know it will resonate with people," says the director.

"Letting Go" will premiere on the West Coast at: the Glendale International Film Festival at the Laemlle Glendale on October 6, 2018 at 4:30pm and will screen at the Official Latino Film & Arts Festival, at the Coachella Library on October 14, 2018 at 3:00pm, bringing Hispanic Heritage Month to a close.
