Emma Thompson Classics Among Films Premiering on REEL 12 This April

Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson topline The Remains of the Day which kicks off the Reel 13 lineup in April. The universally praised drama - based on based on a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro - and set in 1930's England, was recognized with eight Academy Award nominations, including the performances of Hopkins and Thompson.

Thompson, who has received two of the five Academy Awards for which she was nominated, returns to the schedule a second time, starring alongside Kate Winslet in Ang Lee's period drama Sense and Sensibility, currently on stage in New York in an exuberant theatrical interpretation by the Bedlam Theatre Company.

Based on the Jane Austen novel, the film received seven Academy Award nominations. Thompson received the award for "Best Screenplay," making her the only person to have won an Oscar in both writing and acting categories. (Her other Oscar was as Best Actress in "Howard's End.")

Another acclaimed British period drama, Chariots of Fire, airs the following week. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning four including "Best Picture" and "Best Screenplay."

The legendary Lauren Bacall also appears on the schedule in the British film Flame over India, which was released in the UK as North West Frontier.

Kawa, Kilimanjaro, Jack, Jules, Esther and Me, Putzel and Nobody Walks are the month's independent offerings.

Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classicfollowed by an Indie, presented by Columbia University professor Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.

"Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) Dir: Nora Ephron

A recently engaged newswoman (Meg Ryan) becomes obsessed with meeting a grieving widower (Tom Hanks) she hears on a late-night radio call-in show. With Rosie O'Donnell, Bill Pullman, Rob Reiner, Rita Wilson, Victor Garber and David Hyde Pierce.

"Kilimanjaro" (2013) Dir: Walter Strafford

A man decides to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro after his relationship ends. With Abigail Spencer, Diego Klattenhoff, Brian Geraghty and Jim Gaffigan.

"Sense and Sensibility" (1995) Dir: Ang Lee

Suitors romance, then abandon, two sisters (Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet) left destitute by their father's death in 18th century England. With Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman and Greg Wise.

"Jack, Jules, Esther & Me" (2013)Dir: Daniel Poliner

When Lou's romantic plot to win the heart of his unrequited high school crush falls apart, he is forced to improvise. With Alexander Flores, Aaron Sauter, Jessica Rothe and Alice Lee.

"Putzel" (2012) Dir: Jason Chaet

A shy Upper Westsider falls in love with his uncle's girlfriend. With Jack Carpenter, Melanie Lynskey and John Pankow.

"Flame Over India" (1959) Dir: J. Lee Thompson

A British army captain and an American governess smuggle a young Indian prince to safety in this film set in turn-of-the-century India. With Kenneth More, Lauren Bacall, Herbert Lom and Wilfrid Hyde-White.

"Nobody Walks" (2012) Dir: Ry Russo-Young

A Los Angeles family's harmony is tested when they host a boundary-pushing media artist so she can complete her art film. With John Krasinski, Olivia Thirlby, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan McDermott and Justin Kirk.
