With Leonardo DiCaprio out of Sony's upcoming Steve JOBS biopic, Christian Bale may now be in.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio and its director, Academy Award winner Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire"), are in talks with Bale to play the famed Apple co-founder in the untitled project. Aaron Sorkin wrote the script based on Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography "Steve Jobs," to which Sony acquired the rights following the Apple exec's death in 2011. Scott Rudin will produce.

Bale was originally attached to the project when David Fincher was on board as director.

DiCaprio's recent exit came from a hectic shooting schedule with THE REVENANT, and a desire to take "a lengthy break from acting."

Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, and Matt Damon were also said to be in the running.

Bale is best known for his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). He also portrayed Dicky Eklund in the biopic The Fighter (2010), for which he received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
