Father Gabriel - "Nowadays, people are just as dangerous as the dead, don't you think?"

Daryl - "No... people are worse."

Well that about sums up this series, doesn't it? Especially tonight's episode. Holy crap! That just happened! Penned by the man himself, Robert Kirkman, this episode was certainly not for a sensitive stomach. Good LORD!

Okay, so picking up from last week's celebratory ending with the emotional reunion, we get some great slow motion, walking shots of the group heading to, well, nowhere. They happen upon some walkers attacking a priest and we are introduced to Father Gabriel. Still scarred from Terminus, Rick is quick to not trust him. But he leads them to his church where he provides some sanctuary. Rick accepts with caution. He takes the Good Father with him, Michonne, Sasha and Bob on a supply run. After a vile mission through a busted sewer, they are successful with their run. The gang is able to have a happy and cheerful dinner. It's so weird to see them smiling and it immediately puts me at ease. Just kidding, I was terrified and rightly so.

Tara apologizes to Maggie, Rick welcomes Tara, Carol and Daryl bond some more (just kiss already), Bob and Sasha are lovey dovey, Tyrese is happy to babysit, Rick, very humbly, apologizes to Carol and asks if the group can join her; all seems well. And after Abraham makes an impassioned plea for them all to go to DC, they all happily agree. Yay! However, there are some red flags. Carl finds "You will burn for this" etched into the side of the church, Carol finds that the Father is basically just copying The BIble to pass the time (Jack Torrance, anyone?) and Rick warns him that he knows he's hiding something and it better not harm his "family."

But we all knew something bad was coming, didn't we? DIDN'T WE? But nothing like this. Oh dear God, nothing like this. Outside the church, Bob is hit over the head and when he wakes up he is being held captive by Gareth (I knew he was alive) and the Terminus survivors (including the D-Bag we thought Tyrese killed) and they are enjoying dinner, which just happens to be, oh I don't know, BOB'S LEG! That happened!

I am still dumbfounded by how this show gets better and better every week. And I know I'm not alone in loving when Robert Kirkman jumps in and writes an episode. There was an underlying creepy tone to the entire episode. Yes, the sewer scene was disgusting and yes, Father Gabriel is shady but generally, everyone seemed oddly content. And it was this Sword of Damocles (Google it) effect happening. And even though I expected to see Gareth again, I wasn't expecting it that soon or that vile. And wow, did I scream. I'm unapologetically, fan-girl gushing. This episode was amazing. Last week's was great and satisfying and sweet; this week's was remarkable.

What I Know:

  • Tyrese's love for that baby is downright adorable.

  • Water-soaked walkers are way more disgusting than regular walkers.

  • It's going to be a while before I will be okay at a barbecue.

What I Don't Know:

  • Daryl and Carol tore off after Beth. Can these two have a spinoff, zombie apocalypse, buddy cop show?

  • Is Father Gabriel somehow involved with Terminus?

  • Rick seems to have forgiven Carol. Has Carol forgiven Rick?

Lines I Love:

  • Abraham - We don't give two short and curlies what it looks like.

  • Rick - What have you done? We've all done something.

  • Bob - If a sewer could puke, this is what it'd smell like.

So now, there is a mission ahead of them, they are definitely going to D.C. But Gareth and his goons have put a wrench in that plan. So how long will we be at this church? In the preview, Sasha said that three people are missing so I'm wondering if some more of our beloved gang are going to lose their limbs. And let's not forget that the vigilante twosome just took off after Beth. Has Maggie even questioned the whereabouts of her only family member or was she too busy making out with her husband? So now, even though the group is back together, so much has happened between the prison and now that each mini-group has a set of secrets that has yet to be revealed to the group as a whole. I am in awe of this writing.

In all of the fantastic writing and acting, sometimes the other things get lost so I'd like to send a shout out to Bear McCreary for one of the most amazing scores on television. I saw him live in concert once we he performed the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA soundtrack at the Roxy. He is an amazing musician and this score sets the perfect mood for this show.
