The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach Completes New Pavilion

By: Oct. 12, 2015

One year ago, The Colony Hotel - the center of Palm Beach Society since 1947 - celebrated a $10-million "re-imagining" by internationally renowned decorator Carleton Varney, President/Owner of Dorothy Draper & Co. This week, the iconic boutique hotel completed the final $4-million phase of its property-wide re-do, including The Colony's Pavilion ballroom, three spectacular penthouses and seven charming two-bedroom villas.

"Once again, Brinsley Matthews and Carleton Varney have done an amazing job by dramatically transforming the entire hotel and bringing a bright new glow to every guest room, restaurant and meeting space," says Roger Everingham, the hotel's Vice President & General Manager. "Absolutely, The Colony's Pavilion is now the most glamorous and technologically-advanced ballroom in Palm Beach County."

"Located in a separate building next to the main hotel, The Colony Pavilion has its own dramatic porte-cochère which gives a sense of exclusivity for upscale events," adds Everingham. "Not only did this re-imagining include an extraordinary, state-of-the-art, computerized sound and lighting system, but also a new ceiling, new carpet, new chandeliers, and a new two-layer custom-designed wall covering. Best of all, the colors of the new Axminster carpets from Ireland, wall covering and chairs are specifically designed to be lively without clashing with the color theme of any bride."

"Everything in the Pavilion is totally unique: from the carpet to the silk wall coverings to the eight white coral chandeliers, all custom designed and colored," says Brinsley Matthews, Director of Design and Operations for Dorothy Draper. "While everything was sourced in West Palm Beach, we brought in elements from all over the world, from the 400 yards of wall fabric from France to the one-inch gold tiles in the powder rooms."

From its new aqua colors of salmon and white to the Palm Beach symbols of pineapples and hibiscus leaves, The Colony's Pavilion is now more glamorous than ever, and the perfect spot for unique and memorable events, from corporate meetings to sophisticated weddings," he adds.
