Trusted Catholic pilgrimage provider Regina Tours will offer three departures of "Footsteps of Saint Teresa: Carmelite Pilgrimage Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Birth of St. Teresa of Avila" (also known as Santa Teresa de Jesus), in 2015. This pilgrimage to Portugal and Spain will depart on March 9, April 20 and October 11, 2015 to coincide with the anniversaries of Saint Teresa's Canonization, Beatification and Feast Day, respectively. Over the course of nine days, pilgrims on the tour will visit spiritual and historical sites across the Iberian Peninsula, including those in Lisbon, Santarém, Fatima, Alba de Tormes, Avila, Segovia, Madrid and Toledo.
The pilgrimage starts off in the beautiful Portuguese capital city of Lisbon. Sightseeing includes a visit to the birthplace of Saint Anthony and the awe-inspiring Jeronimo's Monastery. The group travels to Fatima via Santarem, visiting the Church of St. Stephen to venerate the Oldest Eucharistic Miracle, on continuous display since 1269 AD. The group next arrives in Fatima, where the Blessed Mother appeared to three children in 1917 and asked them to pray for mankind and world peace. In Fatima, the group visits the Little Chapel of the Apparitions (Capelinha) and the local village where the children were born. Pilgrims also visit the Basilica where Blessed Francisco, Blessed Jacinta and Sister Lucia are entombed.
The following day, the tour departs for Avila, Spain, the city of Saint Teresa. Pilgrims start the day by praying at La Santa, where Saint Teresa was born on March 28, 1515. A full day in Avila includes sojourns to the Monastery of the Incarnation and the Convent of San Jose. The pilgrimage continues to Alba de Tormes where St. Teresa died in October 1582 at age 67. Pilgrims will visit her Tomb and see her relics. The group next visits Segovia to see the Carmelite Church and pray at the Tomb of St. John of the Cross, and then journeys on to Madrid, the capital city of Spain. The pilgrimage comes to a close with a full day in Toledo, where pilgrims visit the Treasure and Museum in the Sacristy, as well as the Carmel, 5th foundation of Saint Teresa, where Saint John of the Cross took refuge. St. Teresa was the first woman declared a Doctor of the Church September 1970 by Pope Paul the VI.
